Giacomo Borgogno ‘No Name’ Langhe Nebbiolo, 2020
This wine is made of 100% Nebbiolo. The grapes are spontaneously fermented in concrete, and aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for a little over two years. All organic. The No Name label was born out of a quiet protest (“etichetta di protesta” on the label), when the winery submitted a Barolo sample that was rejected by the governing board. Borgogno was determined to share a wine that, in its mind, was worthy of Barolo DOCG status, but was denied a name. No Name can still be treated as a great Piedmontese Nebbiolo, and we would pair it with roasted duck with fingerling potatoes topped with duck jus.
