Diamantis Magoutes ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Blanc Macedonia, 2022
This wine is made of 100% Xinomavro. Xinomavro, a red grape, is fermented without its skins to produce a blanc de noir, a white wine made from red grapes. This is not necessarily an unusual style, but it is definitely intriguing. The grapes are grown on limestone and clay soils, and showcase a bright citrus and stone fruit minerality that just begs to be paired with a fresh mediterranean grilled fish. Keep it Greek with some roasted potatoes with lemon and oregano – Patates Lemonates. The wine’s steely-minerality and bright citrus may remind some of Chablis. It is lean but powerful, and will only get better with age. Definitely a wine to stock up on and have over the next couple years.
